Front and rear number plates

We make number plates

Among our many products and services, we can make number plates for you, while you wait, and at competitive prices. For assistance please visit one of our branches in Edinburgh, call us or ask for details via our Parts Enquiry form.

Please note that there is strict legislation that we have to comply with. As an officially Registered Number Plate Supplier (RNPS) with the DVLA (registration number 38059), we only supply number plates that are legal for use on UK roads.

To legally supply number plates to you, we must ask you for original documents that prove your name and address and show you’re allowed to use the registration number. At least one of your documents must prove the address of the purchaser. We must then keep records of the details.

Number plate terms & conditions, and further guidance

YOU WILL NEED PROOF OF YOUR IDENTIFICATION - NAME AND ADDRESS

I.D. must relate to the purchaser of the plates, not necessarily the owner.
You can use the following to confirm your name and address:

• driving licence (preferred).
• utility, council tax or rates bill from the last 6 months.
• bank or building society statement from the last 6 months.
• national identity card.

The following will confirm your name only (so would be insufficient without a supporting document to show your address):

• passport (doesn’t have to be issued in the UK).
• bank or building society debit or credit card.
• police warrant card.
• armed forces identity card.

YOU WILL NEED PROOF OF YOUR ENTITLEMENT

Any of the following documents can be used to prove your entitlement. Some of these can also prove your address - but only if it matches the address of the purchaser:

• vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI).
• green “new keeper” supplement (V5C or V5CNI).
• certificate of entitlement (V750 or V750NI) to the number.
• retention document (V778).
• a renewal reminder for a tax disc or SORN (V11 or V11NI).
• temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI).
• a number plate authorisation certificate (V948) with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
• an electronic number plate authorisation certificate (eV948 or eV948/2).
• a letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) quoting the document reference number from the registration certificate.
• if your fleet is in the new V5C on-demand scheme (also called ‘V5C suppression’), a PDF of the vehicle’s details from the view vehicle record service.
• UK trailer registration certificate (VTRC).

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION

• Your number plates can be made, while you wait, in only a few minutes using high quality legally conforming materials.
• As well as standard, plain oblong plates, we can offer plates with a Scotland flag (SCO), British flag (UK) (and other nations also available by special order) or with a GREEN electric vehicle identifying block. Special plate sizes and 3D letters (again only those allowed) can be specially ordered for you.
• We can supply screw kits, screw caps (in white and yellow), fixing pads and fixing tape.
• The Registered Number Plate Supplier (that's us if you're buying from us) must include their name and postcode on the bottom of the plate. The law requires this. It is not optional and we cannot add or substitute alternative text.

We do not drill your number plate holes or fit your plates to your car. Plates fitted with screws will have two or four holes drilled in them. Because every set of plates has a unique hole positioning, it would be impossible for us to know exactly where to drill your holes. It's easy for you to do though and here's how:
1. Remove old number plate(s) from the vehicle.
2. Do steps 3-7 for front plates, then repeat for rear plates:
3. Using your old number plate as a template, line up both old and new plates together, making sure they are both facing the same way (not facing each other) and are both the same way up, with the old plate behind the new plate.
4. Tape them together using masking tape (or similar), so they don't slip when you're drilling.
5. Using an appropriately sized drill bit, carefully drill through the old plate holes through the back of the new plates.
6. Separate and discard the old plate.
7. Remove the protective film from the front of your new plate and fit it to your car. All done!
Alternatively, many plates are fitted using special number plate sticky pads, which we can supply.

• We must keep records of your details for 3 years and they must be available for a police officer or representative of a local authority to inspect at any reasonable time.
• Please do not ask us for non-conforming letter spacing or anything else that would render a number plate illegal. We will have to refuse.
• Beware of any number plate supplier offering “show plates” or who does not comply with these rules. This includes any online supplier who does not ask you to send original documents before supplying plates. They are breaking the law and putting you at risk!
